Vivobarefoot

Vivobarefoot makes minimalist, foot-shaped Boots an Shoes built around a single idea: feet are designed to flex, splay and feel the ground. Every shoe in the range has a wide toe box, an ultra-thin flexible sole and zero drop from heel to toe to accomodate this idea. Whether that's walking the dog, lifting at the gym, or working a Snowdonia ridgeline, if you're looking for a more natural ground feel then. If you like the idea but would prefer more cushion then Altra is worth looking at.

We hold stock in North Wales with super fast nationwide dispatch and you're more than welcome to come and try our Vivobarefoot range on at our Llanberis or Beddgelert stores before you commit. Need a recommendation? Drop us a message and one of our team will get back to you.

Why Vivobarefoot is built for British conditions

There's a reason you'll see Vivobarefoot on the trails around Snowdonia almost as often as you'll see them on the Tube. The brand was built in Britain by British cobblers, and the range is engineered for exactly the mix of weather, terrain and lifestyle the UK throws at you.

For city and gym use, the Primus Lite has become a default: light, breathable, and unintimidating enough to wear to the office. Step out of town and the Primus Trail FG adds 4mm lugs that bite into Welsh slate and grassy bridleways without losing the ground feel that makes a barefoot shoe a barefoot shoe. For the wetter, harder days like the Glyderau in November, the Carneddau in March, the Tracker Forest ESC brings a waterproof leather upper, a Michelin-compound outsole, and the kind of grip you actually want when the path turns into a stream.

Whichever direction you take, you're getting a shoe that respects how your foot is meant to move. That's the whole point.

New to barefoot? We can help you transition properly

If this is your first pair of barefoot shoes, take it slowly. Going from a cushioned, supported trainer to a 4mm flexible sole is a real change — your feet, calves and achilles need a few weeks to adapt. We'd suggest a couple of hours a day for the first fortnight, then building from there over six to eight weeks. Most people find the first two weeks involve some calf soreness; that's normal, and it passes.

If you're nearby, come and see us. We've fitted hundreds of pairs of Vivobarefoot at the Llanberis and Beddgelert shops, and we'll happily measure your feet, talk through which model suits how you'll actually use them, and give you an honest answer about whether barefoot is the right move for you right now. If you're further afield, our Discover Vivobarefoot guide covers the science, the transition timeline, and who barefoot footwear isn't suitable for.

Vivobarefoot FAQs

Should I size up or down in Vivobarefoot? +

Order your usual size as a starting point. Vivobarefoot shoes are deliberately roomy in the toe box — you should have roughly a thumb's width (6–14mm) of space at the front of your longest toe. If you're between sizes, or have wider feet, size up. If you have narrow feet and prefer a snug fit, you may prefer to size down. Measure both feet and use the longest one. We're happy to help you size in-store at Llanberis or Beddgelert.

Can I wear Vivobarefoot shoes every day? +

Yes — that's exactly what they're built for. Most customers wear theirs daily for commuting, walking, the gym and hiking. If you're new to barefoot footwear, we recommend easing in over four to eight weeks: start with a couple of hours a day and build up as your feet, calves and achilles adapt. Once you're transitioned, Vivos can comfortably be your everyday shoe.

Which Vivobarefoot model should I start with? +

For everyday wear and gym use, the Primus Lite is the most popular all-rounder — flexible, lightweight and well-priced for a first pair. For trail walking and easy hiking, the Primus Trail FG adds 4mm lugs for grip. For wetter UK conditions and longer days in the hills, the Tracker Forest ESC offers a waterproof leather upper and serious off-road grip. Drop us a message if you'd like a personal recommendation.

Are Vivobarefoot shoes good for wide feet? +

Yes. The whole range is built around an anatomical, foot-shaped last with a wide forefoot designed to let the toes splay naturally. Customers with wide feet, bunions, or feet that have spread over time tend to find Vivos noticeably more comfortable than conventional shoes. The midfoot and heel are cut closer for a secure fit, so if you have a particularly high-volume foot, the lace-up models (like the Primus Lite) give you more adjustability than the slip-on or knit styles.

Do you stock Vivobarefoot in the UK and can I see them in-store? +

Yes. We hold UK stock in North Wales with dispatch available nationwide, and you can try the range on in-store at our Llanberis and Beddgelert shops — handy if you're heading into Snowdonia and want a fitting before your trip. If a model or size isn't on the shelf, we can usually order it in within a few days.
