About Keela
From our base on the east coast of Scotland, we’ve been pushing the boundaries of outdoor gear design since 1989. The first Keela kit was tried and tested by local mountain rescue teams. Today, you’ll find our gear worn wherever extreme conditions demand the ultimate in technology, performance and durability.
Technology
In the 90s, our R&D team began working on the knottiest problem in outdoor kit: how to manage inner condensation in wet and cold conditions. The result was System Dual Protection, a double layer fabric system that offered game-changing breathability. It netted the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation and now helps to keep adventurers drier and comfortable in the toughest conditions. We continue to come up with cutting-edge concepts, from the world’s first fully tape-sealed fleece to carbon activated fabrics.
History
Keela was born over 30 years ago, when our Director Rube realised that we could provide high-quality technical outdoor-wear with a base here in the UK.
Over the years we have become known for pushing the boundaries of innovation, and with our range of testing machinery and skilled teams of designers and engineers this continues to be something we work on.
Sustainability
We are proud to be one of the last ‘true’ outdoor gear manufacturers. Keela clothing is all produced at our own factory facilities. That means we mastermind every step of the manufacturing process in-house, from sourcing the raw materials to testing breathability, colour fastness and heat resistance. In other words, each Keela garment is 100% traceable. As part of our commitment to UK manufacturing and sustainability, we are very pleased to announce the latest addition to our journey – The Legacy Project launching in Winter 2022. Taking it one step further, we have identified 6 areas where we can save garments from the dreaded landfill heap.
Care & Repair
Since the 80’s, we’ve had our Keela Clothing Hospital, allowing well-loved clothing to be given a new lease of life, meaning they can be enjoyed for longer. A small tear can be enough to put a jacket into landfill, but a small repair can be mean that jacket can carry on for years to come.
