Walking Shoes

Walking shoes are built around a specific set of priorities, durability over weight, protection over pace. If you're out for four hours on a wet hillside and are ready to pair your shoes with waterproof trousers when the weather changes then you're going to want a shoe that's stiff enough to support you, tough enough to last and waterproof enough to handle the puddles you plod through.

Most of what we stock is either GTX or a comparable waterproof membrane, because in the outdoors Wales especially you will be hard pressed to complete a walk without splashing through one or two puddles.

The Merrell Moab series is the other workhorse with significant construction, reliable grip and a fit that suits a wider foot. If you want something with a more cushioned feel underfoot, the Hoka Anacapa 2 Low GTX brings that characteristic Hoka comfort to a walking shoe without losing the support you need on uneven ground. This was the first Hoka I bought for myself and have had two more since.

For those who want a more technical or leather option, Hanwag and Dolomite both make shoes built to last several seasons of proper use and care. The Hanwag Banks Low Bunion Lady GTX is also worth noting if you've struggled to find a walking shoe that accommodates a wider forefoot comfortably.
