Big Agnes Sleeping Mats - Designed to Work With the Bag
A sleeping mat does two jobs: insulation from the ground and cushioning for sleep. In UK mountain conditions, the first of those is non-negotiable - cold ground pulls heat from your body faster than cold air, and an under-rated mat will undermine even a well-specced sleeping bag.
Big Agnes sleeping mats are designed specifically to pair with their sleeping bag range. The pad slots into the bag's built-in sleeve, which stops it shifting underneath you and maintains the thermal seal throughout the night. It's a simple idea that makes a genuine difference on a cold bivvy.
The current UK range includes two key models:
- Rapide SL Insulated - self-inflating, R-value 4.2, weighs from 454g depending on size. The go-to three-season option for backpacking and wild camping. Packs small and inflates fast.
- Zoom UL Insulated - slightly lighter and more packable, R-value 3.2. Best suited to shoulder-season and summer use, or as part of a layered sleeping system.
Both integrate directly with Big Agnes sleeping bags and are sized to match the bag range. For cold-season use in Eryri, the Cairngorms or exposed winter camps, the Rapide SL's higher R-value is the one to choose.
